Program Panel at October Meeting

calendarsKitsap Young Musicians Festival. Christmas at the Mall. Monster Concert. Adjudications. State Recitalist Competition. Honors Recital. Carnival. Musicianship Exams. Senior Celebration. These are the annual events that KMTA is all about and that we spend most of our time working towards. Though it’s “only” October, planning for all of these is going on NOW! You’ll want to come to our October meeting to hear directly from the program chairs about each of their events and how YOU might get involved: as a studio teacher, as a volunteer, as a leader. If any of these events are new to you or your studio, there will be opportunity for you to ask questions about what they are and how they work.

We will also be hearing about new approaches to our scholarship competitions which may open them up to more student participation. See you at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 14 at Ted Brown Music in Silverdale!

WSMTA District III Presents:

BAROQUE DANCE WORKSHOP  |  October 29, 2016 – 10:00 am – 2:30 pm
First Lutheran Church, Tacoma

Pavane | Galliard | Minuet | Corrente | Gigue | Allemande | Sarabande and more!

The Washington State Music Teachers Association (WSMTA) welcomes ALL of our friends and neighbors who share an interest in the art of music making to join us for this inspiring day with musician and educator, Greg Presley.

The baroque dance workshop by Greg Presley will begin with an introduction about the general history of Baroque dance forms, their importance to both Baroque and Classical composers, their rhythmic and qualitative characteristics, and the importance of knowing the dance steps in order for the performer of Baroque music to achieve the proper effects. The centerpiece of the session will focus on learning some of the dance steps or simplified versions of them. The workshop will conclude with some examples of Baroque dance forms found in other music not given dance music labels – preludes, fugues, inventions, sonata movements, etc. There will be handouts of rhythmic patterns and resources.  (more…)

I hope I can fill the shoes Melanie has vacated! (more…)
