KMTA sponsors many musical and educational events for our students and for
the community at large. The following is a description of some of our
regular events. See our Calendar page for this
year's dates and locations.
Adjudications
Currently we offer adjudications for piano and string students during late winter. Students perform and receive both written and
active feedback from experienced adjudicators.
Ribbon Festival
Described as "track and field day for musicians", this fun event
allows young musicians to earn ribbons for musical knowledge, sight reading,
playing and more.
Musicianship Exams
Held concurrently with the Ribbon Festival, students may have their
progress in theory evaluated by means of a series of exams provided by our
state organization, WSMTA. Ten carefully graded levels are available. Forms
for the examination program can be downloaded from
WSMTA. Practice materials are
available from www.composecreate.com
(Wendy's Piano Studio): download free worksheets, rhythm drills, also sight
reading pieces. Sample theory exams are also available for purchase on this
site tailored to our state Written Theory curriculum.
Student Recitals
There are many opportunities for music students to perform in KMTA
sponsored recitals. Student recitals are held in the fall and winter with
other opportunities to perform during the Christmas
season.
Benefit Recitals
KMTA sponsors professional level concerts to raise funds for our
senior scholarships. Concerts feature the KMTA teachers and also guest
performers from the greater Seattle area.
Young Musician's Festival
A day for young musicians to perform in recital and various
ensembles.
Senior Scholarship & Awards
KMTA honors our graduating seniors with awards and scholarships. A
Scholarship is awarded to the winner of a competition as well as the student
who demonstrates community service within the musical community. This event
is held in the spring.
Monthly Meetings
Each month when KMTA meets, a guest speaker or program is offered in
addition to the business meeting. These meetings offer an opportunity to
network and learn with your fellow teachers. Meetings are usually held the
second Friday of the month.
