Gary enjoys teaching students of almost any age or experience level. He teaches beginners how to play using the entire keyboard, in all key centers, starting with the very first lesson. This method encourages tactile and visual familiarity with the physical keyboard before learning to read notes. It not only makes practicing more enjoyable and productive--especially for young children-but it also allows motivated adults and teenagers to achieve competency level skills in two years or less.
Studio Location & Description
Basin Road Music Studios is located in a quiet and pleasant setting, in Gary's home, close to the Bond Road-Front St. intersection near down-town Poulsbo. His students come from all over the county: Port Orchard, East Bremerton, Silverdale, Hansville, Kingston, and Bainbridge Island. The studios house a variety of keyboards, computers, and music recording equipment.
About the Teacher
Gary is a composer and specializes in teaching improvisation and composition. He retired to Poulsbo from Alaska in 1997 and has been teaching full-time ever since. Prior to that, he taught piano on a part-time basis for almost 40 years. "Basin Road" is the name of the road that leads to a gold mine in Juneau, Alaska. Living in Alaska inspired Gary's composition work. He once composed and recorded the score for a 90-minute television documentary that was distributed world-wide. Gary imparts that inspiration and love of music to his students.
